Hello All,
Welcome to the summer! I do hope you have managed to see some sun after a very wet start to the year, hopefully much more sun to come.
What's new for the club
BKRC's Summer/Autumn Dressage series started on July 14th at Stretcholt. Some of the new 2024 BD tests will be in use from August. If you weren't away there are new tests - some are new, some are just the old ones renumbered. Each level from Prelim to Advanced Medium will now have 6 tests (numbered e.g. Intro 1, Intro 2, Intro 3, Intro 4, Intro 5, Intro 6 - and then the same again at each level e.g. Prelim 1, Prelim 2 etc) At each level (with the exception of intro) 3 of the test will be short arena (20x40) and 3 are long - 20x60.
Hartpury have asked us to include their South West Championship qualifiers which run from September to March 2025. We will be using up our old test sheets this year (and possibly next! lol) but adding in a few of the new ones.
Helpers please!
As always - we need helpers to keep the dressage and members competitions going. So if you are free, we really do appreciate you giving us a helping hand - it’s no fun setting up or clearing away the arena on your own. If you have only have an hour or two spare, all help is welcome, we don’t expect you to stay all day. And as always we add up your help time and turn it, like MAGIC, into vouchers which can be used against paying for a lesson or entry fee.
I’m always looking for help setting up and doing the door for a couple of hours and then the door and clear away on
August 18,
September 22 and
October 12.
If able to help please let me know. As always you get fed and watered.
Working Hunter jump hire - help needed to set up
WH jumps have been available to hire in Locking, at Sarah's yard in Locking, they have gone to the Wick show but back on 22nd, so on 23rd we do need a hand to build them, again to hire and for the members show. Please, if you can spare an hour or 2 please do come and help, many hands light work etc, plus helpers points make prizes (well exchanged for free lesson or entry!) Please let Sarah know if you can help.
Members Only show - 4 August
We are arranging a Members Only Show to be held at The Bury Locking, on Sunday 4th August. You can view the schedule online, - there will be a Fun Dog Show Open to family and friends.
Bacon Butties, Tea and Coffee will be available for the early arrivals and a BBQ and refreshments available from midday.
We have included Working Hunter classes this year instead of the show jumping classes.
There are 3 Championship Classes, In Hand, Ridden and Working Hunter - PLUS we have some lovely trophies to hand out, so please put the date in your Diary.
This is a very low key friendly event, ideal to get out youngsters, have a go if you’re a bit rusty or nervous, meet members, brush up your skills or just have a great day going home with THAT Rosette! The entry fees are really cheap and it is a fund raiser for the club, so please do come and support BKRC.
Fund raising
On the note of fund raiser, we really do need support financially and just to make sure everyone realizes where their membership money goes, this is how BRC works.
Membership as you know is now paid directly to BRC (originally it was paid to each individual club) this obviously gives you affiliation to BRC so you can compete for your club at Area events, and insurance when competing at a BRC/area/club event - it also pays their wages.
As a club we receive less than £4 per member, so we really don’t have much income from membership money. Simple maths with 50 members they bring in £200. We have yearly costs such as insurance on our property (show jumps etc.) and accounts for the year end/AGM which come to upwards of £400!
We really need to raise some money throughout the year to be able to afford to run events, subsidise lessons, pay part entry fees for Area competitions and we need a bit in the bank to cover any losses made. The Dressage and Members show are about our only income, so not really much coming in but plenty going out.
If you have any ideas for or would like to organise a fund raiser, talk, quiz, tack sale, visit, please let us know.
Success at Area Qualifiers
Our Dressage divas did really well at the Area 12 Dressage Qualifiers back on 6 July bring back plenty of rossie's and qualifications:
Our Open Novice team [Jayne Harman & BamBam, Kelly Logan and Freddie of the Fern, Laura Williamson and Fred, Jane Tomlison & Tempest Harley] all won their respective qualifying sections to win the overall team and qualify for Lincoln.
Our Prelim Team finished third and qualified for SWWRC - with a win from Laura Williamson and Freddie
Ros Luff and Dabinett's Deligate won the Intro and qualified for Lincoln. The pair were also the highest placed individual qualifying for the
Senior Riding Test at Lincoln
Laura Williamson and Freddie - comfortably won their prelim section with over 70% qualifying individually for Lincoln
Open Team member Jane Tomlison & Tempest Harley also qualified first individually in their second Medium 61 test.
We also learnt that Junior Member Evie Keedwell, riding Thatchers Gold in Prelim and Kelly Logan riding Freddie of the Fern at Elementary individually both received Wild Cards to compete at Lincoln.
Not to be outdone by the Dressage Divas - today Dave Luff and Dabinetts Deligate have WON the qualifying for the 80cm Senior jumping and will also be heading to Lincoln!!!
That is 8 invites and 15 spots at the National Championships!! Go team BKRC!
It also means we need help fund raising to help send our teams to the championships!!!
Want to get involved in the Area competitions?
Area 12 is organised by Amanda who puts out requests for Area 12 events which are open to all our members wanting to take par., Prelim entries per club usually have to be in 3 weeks before but individuals doing a warm up class can enter up to the closing date of the competition, usually a week before the competition. Please get in touch with Amanda if you have any queries.
Lessons more your thing?
Lessons are very popular and Sarah does a great job trying to cater for all requests, weekday, weekends, morning, evenings, flat, poles, sj, xc, so we hope there is a lesson you can get to somewhere!
Or perhaps you prefer a social?
We wondered if anyone would be interested in going to HOYS, if there was enough interest we could look at doing a minibus/coach to the event in October, now held at Stoneleigh Park. if interested please get in touch with Millie.
